PASTORAL COUNCIL, HOLY
GHOST PARISH MAKURDI COMMITTEES AND FUNCTIONS
1. FINANCE COUNCIL
The Parish Finance Council
has the responsibility of:
Giving counsel to the Parish Priest regarding
the administration of the temporal goods of the Parish
Assisting the Parish Priest in
his temporal administrative role
Assisting the Parish Priest in
financial matters
It is a consultative body that
assists the Parish Priest in taking decisions in the care of parish finances:
budget planning, annual reports, fund raising and development.
The members must possess the charisms essential
for the task spiritual maturity and love of Christ; special competence in
financial matters, and prudent judgment and willingness to offer time and
talent for Christian service.
2. MEDICAL
Organization of seminars on health and healthy
living
Provision of free or subsidized
medical services for parishioners
Establish first Aid for emergency room in the
Church premises with necessary life-saving equipment
3. WELFARE
Also known as social
ministry, together with St. Vincent de Paul, should plan activities to involve
provision of food or clothing, financial or material support for the less
privileged of the parish.
To encourage programme that will promote
equality, eliminate discrimination, promote social justice and peaceful
co-existence,
Activities will include:
Care of
widow/widowers/orphans/elderly
Visit to Prisons/Hospitals/IDPS
camps
4. MARRIAGE
The Committee is
responsible for creating awareness of the gifts and needs of families. The
committee will strongly advocate for family life within the parish, review and
evaluate Parish activities and how they impact on family life; it will provide
support for families to continue to live their calling to be “domestic
Church”. It will suggest activities to help singles, married couples,
parents, & families in crisis, divorcees, widows, widowers and other
vulnerable groups.
The committee will seek out
ways of tackling problems facing marriages within the Parish and will promote
marriage counseling and courses for married and intending couples.
5. EDUCATION
The Committee to take care
of the educational facilities of the Parish, create means to support indigent
members of the parish. The Committee is to work with the administrator of our
parish school to ensure high standards are obtained and to provide the
necessary support to the school. The idea of an adult school can be pursued.
6. SECURITY
This is one of the most
important arms of the Parish. Together with the Parish Priest, the committee
should ensure security around the Parish premises, the Parish Priests and
parishioners at all times.
The committee to regularly
review the Parish Security architecture. Ensure that security personnel are
professionals; and good equipment are provided for effective services. Sundays,
Saturdays and days when Parish holds big activities must be well co-ordinated
ahead of such days.
7. WORKS
AND MAINTENANCE
Daily maintenance of parish
structures and facilities and the general supervision of works on Parish
premises. The committee will always create new ideas to ensure the Parish is
clean and the facilities are functional.
8. VOCATION COMMITTEE
Work with Priests to promote vocation to the
Priesthood and religious life in the Parish
Find ways of supporting
seminarians
Monitor activities of
seminarians in the Parish
Provide written report to the
Parish Priest on seminarians
Organize seminary collections.
9. LITURGY
COMMITTEE
Promote worship and liturgical celebrations in
the Parish
Coordinate liturgical functions
in collaboration with other relevant bodies
Monitor activities of worship in
the Parish and report abuses
Ensure solemn liturgical
celebrations and active participation of parishioners
Organize Parish celebrations and ensure all
parishioners are carried along.
10. JUSTICE
DEVELOPMENT
To help the Parish identify
projects that will bring about Justice and development; whether financial or
social that will be alternative source of income for the Parish.
To participate in
legislative processes and government programmes involving
social justice.
To seek creative ways for
Parish sustainability without falling back on
parishioners for financial
assistance or second collections.
11.
COMMUNICATION
To publicise parish activities.
Holy Ghost Parish should be on
social media/network.
To assist in the production of
Pope’s message on world communication day.
To do communication, when there
is parish event.
To organise film show for women,
children and adults.
To collect or assemble documents
of the church and organize workshops for parishioners.
To be in charge of public address system.
To
be in charge of the production of bulletin.
